Do You Really Believe It?
Sunday's Devotion (6-8-08)
"Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him." 1 John 5:1 (KJV)
If you have a best friend you wouldn't tell him, "I love you, but I hate your son." Now, would you? If you accept him then also accept his son, right? If you're a good friend then if something happened to your friend you might even take care of his son if you needed to. The point is that you would accept his son... We can't say that we love God, if we don't love His Son. For two reasons really: The first reason being that Jesus is a part of God, He's His Son! The second reason is similar, because they (God and Jesus,) are one in the same! There is no way you can accept one without the other. It would make absolutely no sense to even try and accept one without the other. If I had a son and someone told me, "I'll talk to you, but keep your son away..." I'd stay away too!
It says that we're born of God, IF we believe that Jesus is the Christ. I believe it! However, it takes more than just saying, "I believe it!" If we really believe that Jesus is the Christ (The Son of God,) then we'll show our belief through our actions. We'll obey the Words of Christ because we know that since He's the Son of God then He cannot lie, and that His Words are life. We can say we believe it all we want, but if we aren't obeying His Word then DO WE REALLY BELIEVE IT? I'll just leave it at that for today.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who've sinned against us. Please help us to obey your Word and to accept your truth and your Son. In Jesus name. A-men!
