Sacrifice

Tuesday's Devotion (5-13-08)

"This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh." Galatians 5:16 (KJV)

First let me say this: This verse is MUCH easier said than done. However, it's not impossible to do as with Christ in us all things are possible. In order to walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh we have to make some sacrifices. We have to give up things that are making it difficult for us to walk in the Spirit. Whether it be addictions or just bad habits, or bad things we're putting into our minds, eyes, and ears. Sometimes we even have to walk away from people who are making it difficult for us, whether it be friends or family or enemies or co-workers. It doesn't matter who it is or what it is, we have to make sacrifices for our walk in Jesus.

In order to walk in the Spirit we have to keep our minds pure. You can't fill your minds with trash, there's a trash can for that! There are things in our life that deep down inside we KNOW we have to give up in order to get closer to Jesus. When I first got saved I got the revelation that I needed to give up secular music, and at a time when I was just starting to really get into listening to music. I was in denial, I didn't believe that I needed to give up rock music. Thank God that there is Christian rock! And it's so much better anyway. But when I made the sacrifice I got closer to the Lord. Of course that wasn't the only sacrifice I've had and need to make. The other thing we need to do is to stay in prayer, always keep the Lord at the front of our minds and hearts. We also need to know God's Word (The Bible,) because without it we are just going to find ourselves serving our flesh... Doing things against the Will of God without even knowing it. I thought I had it all down, I thought as long as I did what I thought was right then I was fine... But when you open up that Bible you find out that everything you thought was right is wrong! And things you thought were wrong are right. You have to sacrifice yourself and change yourself. Being a Christian is NOT easy, it's a battle, BUT it's a winning battle! Without Jesus we battle too, but for what? What prize is there in the end for those without Christ? There is none, there's no long-term (everlasting,) victory without Christ.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who've sinned against us. Help us to walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh. Give us the strength to make the sacrifices that we need to make in our lives. In Jesus name. A-men!

God bless!
