Pure Communication

Tuesday's Devotion (5-6-08)

"But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth." Colossians 3:8 (KJV)

This is an important verse, because any Christian who speaks badly does not shine the light of Jesus in their life. Jesus never spoke a foul/perverse word. He never spoke out of anger or wrath. Did He get angry? Yes, but He didn't let His anger influence His words. In other words, THINK before you speak. Don't let your anger speak for you, that will only cause problems.

Anger and wrath aren't the only issues when speaking. Profanity is bad, but it's worse when you use God's name while doing it. God's name is never to be blasphemed or used even in the same sentence as profanity. It needs to be reverend/respected. We shouldn't speak any profanity, but ESPECIALLY when using the name of the Lord in the same sentence or as profanity. Now, I'm sure you've all heard about Reverend Wright, Barack Obama's preacher. I'm not going to judge him or Barack Obama, but most people are offended about what the preacher said about America... I am offended by that, but I'm more offended at how he used the name of God. It's nothing short of blasphemy and no man who uses God's name in such a way should be a reverend. A reverend is someone who has reverence for our Lord and savior. I would advise anyone not to visit any church that uses the name of God in such a way. I can't even post what he said here, I refuse to actually... It's disrespectful to even repeat it.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who've sinned against us. Please help us to have reverence and respect for you and your holy name. May our communications be pure. In Jesus name. A-men!

God bless!
