Prayerfully Choose Your Friends
Thursday's Devotion (4-9-08)
"He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips." Proverbs 20:19 (KJV)
Have you ever dealt with those kind of people that come to you with gossip about someone else? "Can you believe what Billy did? He did this, he did that and he said..." What most people don’t realize is that when these people talk about others behind their back, that’s a good indication that they’ll do the same to you. Whenever someone comes to me with gossip on someone else, one of the first things I think is, "I wonder what this person says about me behind my back." I’m not impressed with gossipers/talebearers. We cannot associate with these types of people... Because if you can’t trust your friends with your secrets then who besides God can you trust? You should have friends that respect you, and who don’t go around airing your dirty laundry. When you tell them something you should be able to sleep good knowing that your secret is safe. This is why I have very FEW friends... Because if I can’t fully trust you then I don’t want you as a friend. So, those who I call true friends are a rarity and most of my true friends I only know long distance... Like Lori for example. My point is that I’m very careful in choosing friends. Maybe I’m too careful, but careful nonetheless. And I guess any kind of careful is too careful, because I should be prayerful not careful.
The sad thing is that some of you settle when you pick your friends... Some settle when they pick their spouses. They feel they can’t do any better, but guess what? In Christ you don’t have to settle for anything! you deserve good friends, you deserve a good spouse, because these are the things that the Lord has chosen for your life! Accept no less than the VERY best! You must understand that when you pick friends or a spouse these are people you’re going to spend your life with. If you want a life with as little stress as possible then you better choose wisely. If they’re talking about others behind their back to you, then I can guarantee they’re doing the same thing to you! DO NOT associate with these types of people, unless you want trouble.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who’ve sinned against us. Please help us to choose our friends wisely, and not to be talebearers or gossipers. In Jesus name. A-men!
God bless!
