Be Great!
Friday's Devotion (4-4-08)
"And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many." Matthew 20:27-28 (KJV)
Some of us want to be "great," we want to achieve great things and be upstanding people. However, not all of us are great because we have an attitude that tries to be better than our fellow man. Instead of helping our fellow man we think we’re "too good." Of course none is good, but God... But we have an attitude that we are too important to be bothered. If we have that attitude we cannot be great. In order to be chief (or great,) we have to be servants. We have to serve those who are weaker. Let’s take a look at the greatest: God. Now, we wouldn’t call Him a servant... However, let’s look at what the greatest being in all the universe does. He serves His people in many ways. He answers our prayers, He blesses us, He just does so many things for us. We are His servants don’t get me wrong, but lets look at the facts. God does more things for us than we could possibly do for Him. Thus, making God the greatest being in all the universe. Look at the psalms where things are said like, "How great art thou..." these are praises to God for things He has done. Even God came to earth in the flesh in the form of His only begotten Son, and gave His life for us. That’s a great service to His people.
Now we can’t compare ourselves to God, BUT we must walk after His ways. We must follow in His example. God loves, and God gives and does so many things for His people. If we think we are "above" doing that then we are putting ourselves above God. And if try to put ourselves above God, then God is going to bring us back down to reality. We are not above our maker, nor will we ever be. Another example would be to look at former Presidents that we consider to be great. Every GREAT president gave a service to the American people. They didn’t take, but they gave. If they only took and didn’t give then they weren’t a great president... They were a horrible president. A leader must serve, a great person must serve in order to be great in order to be a leader. So, in conclusion if you want a spot reserved for the greats in God’s Kingdom then you’re going to have to serve your fellow man.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who’ve sinned against us. Please help us to be great servants to the people and more importantly to you. Let us do great things and bring you great glory. In Jesus name. A-men!
God bless!
