Your Heavenly Trust Fund?
Wednesday's Devotion (4-2-08)
"If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God." Colossians 3:1-3 (KJV)
You know, we often worry about building up our earthly treasures. However, what we really should be concerned about is our Heavenly Treasures! We need to seek those things which are above and not on the earth. To me this first and foremost means to seek the Lord Jesus Christ, God Almighty, and the Holy Spirit. After that for me I think about building those Heavenly riches through faith (Which brings works.) Spreading the gospel will build my treasures in Heaven, helping people who need help will build my treasures in Heaven. There are so many good things that we can do to build our treasures in Heaven, but first there must be faith in Christ. Without faith our works are dead, our works should be a result of our faith and not the other way around. If it’s the other way around then our faith is dead, and if our faith is dead then we have no treasures in Heaven!
The main thing I’m trying to get to is that we have to stop looking at how many earthly things we have, and start thinking about our Heavenly possessions and building those up. I for example don’t have a car, and there are many other things that I just don’t have on earth that I would like to have... But I have to realize that these things are only temporal and in the long run they’re not important at all. Think when I die the Lord is going to ask me, "How come you didn’t have a car?" I don’t think so! But He just might ask us, "How come you didn’t spread the gospel? How come you didn’t help those in need?" And guess what? There’s no excuse, there’s no right answer as to why we didn’t do these things if we didn’t do them. So, start thinking about investing in your Heavenly trust fund... Actually, don’t think about it, just do it!
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who’ve sinned against us. Please help us to trust in you and to do your Will. May we through your Holy Spirit store up great riches in Heaven. In Jesus name. A-men!
