Have No Part Of The Devil!
Monday's Devotion (3-17-08)
"But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes." 1 John 2:11 (KJV)
First off, I have to explain that the word "brother’ here goes for everyone and not just your literal brother... Otherwise someone would come and say, "I don’t hate my brother, I hate this guy at work!" What we must realize is that, God is love... Therefore Satan must be hate. We cannot abide in the light if Satan abides in us. God is the light, Satan is the darkness. Everything that God is, Satan is the opposite. It is not "ok," to hate ANYONE for ANY reason. This is why I get so upset when people call our Christian faith "Hate-driven." That’s such a lie. We are commanded to love, no matter what. Those believers that hate another, for whatever reason are abiding in darkness. They are not at peace with God. Forgive those who have done you wrong, or God will not be able to forgive you. If you hate someone, that means you haven’t forgiven them of something.
It’s not easy! A lot Christians think it’s supposed to be easy, it’s not... I don’t know where they read that because it wasn’t in the Bible. There’s always going to be someone that tries your patience. They make it so hard for you to love them that you’d rather just kill them. But if you hate them, then you’ve already committed murder in your heart. I am guilty of that, thank God that murder isn’t the unpardonable sin! I’ve hated too many people, but I’m past that now... However, occasionally someone comes along that really tries me. They really put me through the test. Right now there’s someone in particular that is putting me through it, and they’re doing a better job than almost anyone I’ve ever went up against before. They’re making it personal because they’re taking advantage of someone in my family. But that gives me no right to hate them. So, you see no matter what the situation we cannot allow hate to fill our hearts.
I’m reminded of a story that I read awhile back. It was a sad yet beautiful story and it’s a true story. I read it in the news, and I posted the article here. There was an Omish Christian (I believe it was) family that had their children killed at school by a gunman. The gunman was shot down, killed... But what did this omish family do? They comforted the gunman’s family! They gave to his family! How many of us could do that?! I think that takes a BIG person to do that. I think they were doing it in order to help themselves forgive the gunman as well, but that’s just amazing. That’s the power of Christ. When Christ was being crucified on the cross, He said "...Father forgive them for they know not what they do..." He forgave His own killers! Because if He wouldn’t of then it would’ve been darkness, and we know that Christ has no part with the devil! We shouldn’t either.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who’ve sinned against us. Please help us to forgive those who’ve done us wrong if we’re having a hard time doing so. Let us walk in the love of Christ and not to hate any living creature. In Jesus name. A-men!
God bless!
