Fight Off Satan

Saturday's Devotion (3-1-08)

"If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve." Luke 4:7-8 (KJV)

In these two verses, Satan was trying to tempt Jesus to worship him instead of God. What we're going to talk about today is how Jesus handled Satan here. He didn't just say, "No!" Jesus quoted the truth of the scriptures, the commandment of His Father. That's how He fought Satan off here. Satan cannot stand against the truth, the written Word of God. The truth defeats the lies.

Some people don't understand that Satan attacks our mind. They'll take credit for the wicked thoughts that he puts in their mind. Satan will try and get you to sell out to him, to worship him... To do all kinds of evil, but you have to know and fight him off with the Word of God. Satan might come to you with the very same words that he came to Jesus with, "If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine." What you must do is give him Jesus' response, "Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve." Satan will come after you with all different kinds of things and they'll require different scriptures to battle him off. He might come at you and say, "You need money bad to pay your bills, why don't you steal it?" Your response would be, "Satan get behind me: for it is written, thou shalt not steal!" This goes for all temptations, urges, and thoughts that try to get you to do evil or that try to mislead you. This also is why it's so important that we KNOW the Word of God and that we're equipped with it at all times. The Holy Spirit will bring scriptures to your remembrance when you need them, BUT as Lori was saying here awhile back... If you don't know any scripture then He cannot bring it to your remembrance. In order to remember something you have to know it to begin with.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who've sinned against us. Please help us to know your Word and to know how to use it as our weapon against Satan. In Jesus name. A-men!

God bless!
