What Glory Is It...
Monday's Devotion (2-25-08)
"For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God." 1 Peter 2:20 (KJV)
You know when some people are persecuted for faults they think that they're being "persecuted for Christ Sake." You're not persecuted for Christ sake unless you're being persecuted for actually doing the work of Christ! When my wife tells me to stop biting my nails she is not persecuting me for "Christ sake." There is no glory for getting persecuted for your own imperfections. The glory comes when you're doing right in the eyes of God and you get persecuted for it. That's what you'll be rewarded for.
The reason I bring this up is because many people confuse this. Let's use a better example of being persecuted for Christ sake. Abortion is a sin, if I go out and tell people this and speak out against abortion and an angry mob comes after me... That's persecution for Christ sake because I'm standing up for something that Christ Himself would've stood up for. If an angry mob comes after me because I robbed a bank then I'm pretty sure they're not coming after me because I'm a Christian... They're coming after me because I did something wrong and for that, there is no reward! Some of you are probably thinking "Who wouldn't know this already?" That's what I thought, but then I ran into some people that think every time they're persecuted or treated badly it's for Christ sake, it's because they're a Christian... It couldn't be because they actually did something wrong, it had to be because they're a Christian. People give murderers and drug dealers a lot of trouble too, and I'm pretty sure people who do those things aren't exactly Christians. What I'm trying to say is that you had better be sure that you're really being persecuted for the sake of Christ and not because of your imperfections.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who've sinned against us. Please help us to do what's right in your eyes and let the persecution we receive be for your sake and not because of something else. In Jesus name. A-men!
God bless!
