The Price of Pride

Saturday's Devotion (2-16-08)

"A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit." Proverbs 29:23 (KJV)

Pride gets us in a lot of trouble to say the least. Pride can break up families forever, it can cause us to do very stupid things, and it can be very dangerous. People kill each other because of pride, but where has their pride gotten them besides a prison cell? We can laugh at someone who has no pride, but chances are they're living a much better life than we are... They're truly free; they don't have to prove themselves to anyone. The only person they have to answer to is God and God will have mercy on them (As He will to anyone who has accepted and follow Christ.) The point is they're free!

Let me ask you something: What good has pride done for you? It hasn't done me any favors and come to think of it I'm a very prideful person in many ways. I don't like it, because I usually end up paying for it. Pride has a price and I know that I can't afford to pay that price to be perfectly honest. To find honor we must lose pride, and honor will take us places! Honor will give us favor in the sight of the Lord, while pride will bring His wrath upon us. When we put ourselves up in high regard, the Lord is going to remind us that it's a long fall down again. I think I'm going to try and keep my feet on the ground to begin with instead of testing gravity. I'm tired of falling on my face and for what? Pride? It's just not worth it.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who've sinned against us. Please help us to lose our pride and find honor, life, and freedom through you. In Jesus name. A-men!

God bless!
