Fear the Lord
Tuesday's Devotion (6-19-07)
"The fear of the
LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and
the froward mouth, do I hate." Proverbs 8:13 (KJV)
If you're anything like me, then you've heard the statement several times, "FEAR THE LORD!" However, what people don't tell you is that God doesn't want you to be scared of Him, He doesn't want you to run from him... Because if you're scared of Him that's what'll happen you'll run the other way. The fear of the Lord is simply respecting the Lord, it's a reverential fear. If you fear/respect the Lord, then you'll turn away from evil and try your best to only do good.
The fear/respect of the Lord is a VERY important part of our walk with Jesus Christ. If it's not there, then most likely we're not walking with Him at all. We're to obey His Word, but the only way we can do that is if we respect, love, and honor Him first and foremost. And you should honor and love Him, because He's our best friend. When I first started hearing the statement, "Fear the Lord," I thought, "How can I? He's so kind and loving, and He's my friend." That's how we should feel about Him, but at the same time we must have that reverential fear. We must respect and obey Him! It's like an animal, an animal that respects his owner always tries to please his owner. He always tries to obey, while an disloyal animal has no respect for his owner, but only for himself so he does whatever he wants. What I'm saying is that it shows whether or not you respect the Lord by your actions!
Well, I really have to stop here because I don't feel like I'm making enough sense tonight.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who've sinned against us. Help us to love, honor, and respect you with all of our hearts. Put the fear of you in our hearts. In Jesus name. A-men!God bless
