Hearers & Doers
Tuesday's Devotion (6-5-07)
"But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves." James 1:22 (KJV)
This scripture tells us to do two things: Hear and do. In order to hear we have to be studiers of God's Word. Going to church is great, but you should also study your Bible at home daily. However, studying God's Word is not enough... We also need to obey it. Reading about how we should love our neighbor, but not loving our neighbor is not going to help you. You need to both hear and do! One without the other is useless. If you do without hearing, then how can you be sure that what you're doing is the right thing and if you hear without doing, then you are ignoring the instructions of the Lord! In your opinions: Which is worse to hear and not do or to do what you think is right without hearing?
If we deceive ourselves if we do not obey the Word in which we hear, and we also deceive ourselves if we believe that we'll make it to God's Kingdom without God's Word. This is a tough world to live in, we need His instruction and wisdom in order to make it. There's just no other way. So, get in God's Word and obey what He says!
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who've wronged us. Help us to listen to and obey your Holy Word. In Jesus name. A-men!
God bless
