Talk Too Much, Do Too Little!

Wednesday's Devotion (5-2-07)

"My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth." 1 John 3:18 (KJV)

I love this verse because it tells me to prove my love with action rather than just speak it. I just said that I love this scripture, but at the same time if I'm not obeying it then I am just loving it in word and in tongue, but not in deed and in truth. Anyone can say that they love someone or something, but their actions will show you the truth. If a man loves his wife he won't say that he does and then turn around and abuse her. If he really loves her, it'll show through the way he treats her.

Well, as Christians we have it a bit harder: We have to love EVERYONE! How do we truly do that in deed and in truth? How do we love people that we don't even know? The answer is kindness and compassion. You don't have to know someone to be kind to them, you don't have to know a starving person to be compassionate towards them. Simply saying, "I love you," or, "God bless you," is not enough! If you want God to bless someone, then you'll take the first step in blessing that person! You'll give them what they need! And if you love someone, then you'll make sure that they receive that blessing from your own two hands! It means nothing to hear, "I love you," from someone if that someone doesn't show their love. As Christians I think we have talked too much, and we've done too little.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who've sinned against us. Help us to love in deed and in truth. Draw us closer to you and to our fellow man. In Jesus name. A-men!

God bless
