Shine On!
Monday's Devotion (3-19-07)
"And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." Matthew 22:39 (KJV)
Another way to look at this verse is that we're all equal among each other: We all need to eat, sleep, breath, and use the rest-room, and if we're cut we all bleed. Of course we are all guilty of sin. Right now I'm working as a "Human Directional." What that means is that I hold up signs pointing in the direction of a business or real-estate company. As it stands I'm doing it for a real-estate company. I get to stand in front of a Lutheran Church all day... People drive by and yell profanities at me, or they stick up their middle fingers at me. My question is: Would they do this to a Police Officer? A Reverend? Or anyone just trying to support their family? Because that's all I'm trying to do is make money for me and my family. And like anyone else, I have feelings too. Why do people have this idea that because I stand there with a sign that I'm any lesser than them? I seriously want to hear any input on this. It's kind of funny though because some of them wouldn't stick up their middle fingers at a reverend, but I am licensed as a reverend. Most of them also would not stick up their middle fingers at a song-writer, but I'm a song-writer... It's funny that they judge me, because they don't even know me.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that we can't judge one another, and we can't act as if we're better than anyone because we're not! We're all just trying to survive, it would be much easier to survive if everyone helped everyone out instead of tearing them down. Yesterday, I had some sun-block in my eye, it was burning and a lady drove out of the church parking lot. I stopped her and asked her for a napkin because my eye was burning and I was going to pour some water on it. Now this lady is a credit to our faith... She said, "I don't have one, but I can certainly go get you one." When I said, "No, that's ok..." she noticed that she had one in her car. Now, she could've just ignored me and drove away, leaving me there to suffer all day with a burning eye... But she did not! She did not think of herself as too good to help her fellow man, even if it was a small thing. Small things are just as important as the big. As a matter of fact, the small things are what makes up the big person. When you're polite, kind, and helpful you show the love of God, you shine His light! Go, shine on!
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who've wronged us. Help us to be bright shining lights for you, and may we treat others as we want to be treated. In Jesus name. A-men!
God bless
