Holier Than Thou

Saturday's Devotion (3-10-07)

"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us." 1 John 1:8 (KJV)

I just thought of something about this scripture that I never have before. Those of us who say, "We have no sin," the truth is not in them because the Holy Spirit is not in them... For those of us who have the Holy Spirit, the truth is revealed to us. We are brought to repentance through the Holy Spirit, He shows us the error of our ways.

Well, anyway there are two ways to say, "I have no sin," in my opinion. The first is with your words, and the second is with our attitudes and actions. Well, I guess that's three ways. Some like to act "better than," or in this case the appropriate term would be, "Holier than thou." They have the mindset that some have sinned so great that they can never be saved, but yet they are saved. In other words, they think that they haven't sinned as much as others or as badly. No matter how you look at it, we've all sinned and we all need a savior. That savior is Jesus Christ, and in order to accept Him you must also confess your sins and repent of them.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who've wronged us. Help us to not deceive ourselves or others. Don't let us have the "Holier than thou," attitude and don't let us believe that we have no sin. Show us the truth always. In Jesus name. A-men!

God bless
