Envious of What?

Thursday's Devotion (3-8-07)

"Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them. For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief." Proverbs 24:1-2 (KJV)

I love the book of Proverbs. You can probably find an answer to just about any problem in the book of Proverbs alone. Anyway, we're told that we should not envy evil men, neither should we have the desire to be with them. It personally makes me think about school, and jobs too. You have "popular crowds," and everyone wants to be apart of the popular crowd, but what's so special about this crowd? What do they have? I've noticed that they have nothing, they are empty on the inside and boy does it ever show on the outside! If you look at the popular crowd at school, most of them are barely passing their classes. In other words, they're popular now, but their future doesn't look as bright. If you look at people at work, the popular crowd usually slacks off on the job... How long will they keep their jobs? How long will they be able to support their families? What I'm getting to is this: It doesn't always pay to be popular, but it does always pay to do the right thing! It pays to make the right choices! God will reward you, and bless you in many ways. Be popular with God, and don't worry about being popular with people.

We need to be content with what we have, we have Jesus. If we're envious of evil men, then we're not thankful for Jesus being in our lives. If you're envious of a rich drug dealer, then you have to think about it: Look at what he does... He sells drugs, the same stuff that kills mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters. Is that guilt something to be envious of? Is that lifestyle something to be envious of? Do you really want that? If you want what people have, then you have to do what they do and it isn't always worth it.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who've wronged us. Help us to make the right choices and not be envious of any man, but help us be content with you and whatever/whoever else we have. In Jesus name. A-men!

God bless
