Top Priorities
Wednesday's Devotion (2-14-07)
"Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men." Acts 5:29 (KJV)
This verse is a major problem for some of us: We have a tendency of listening to family or others before we do God, and guess what? That means one thing, that means that God is not our top priority as He should be. I can hear the excuses now, "But I have to live with these people, and I don't want any trouble." Well, one day you're going to want to live with Jesus, and unless you get your priorities straight, that simply won't happen. God must come first, and then others come after, and like Lori said, "We ourselves must come in a distant third."
I have heard people say, "I'm not a Christian because my family will always come first, and I want to have time for them." What they fail to realize is that God is a family person. He loves families, and He's all about love. When you're truly following Jesus Christ, then you ARE taking care of your family, you ARE loving them, and you ARE doing what's right for them. God wants you to love your family, but He also wants you to love others. When you put God first, you're making your own family a top priority. Doing what's right for my family, and bringing my family to Christ is a top priority for me. God does not want you to abandon your family in any way. Some cults would have you believe that you must give up your family, you must never talk to your parents again, etc, etc. That's why they're called, "Cults," because they want complete and total control of your life. That's not giving God control of your life, that's giving your life over to a cult leader. That's practically worshipping a false God (The cult leader.) That is not the true Christian faith. Some people have the wrong idea about the Christian faith, because there are so many people who are misrepresenting it. This is why it's so important to represent the Lord right. You are the closest thing to Jesus that many will ever see in this lifetime, so you must represent Him correctly.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who've wronged us. Help us to put you first in our lives and to always obey you. Also, help us to be great representatives of you. In Jesus name. A-men!
God bless
