An Odd Promise
Monday's Devotion (2-5-07)
"He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want." Proverbs 22:16 (KJV)
We're always talking about "If you give to the poor, then the Lord will give to you." That's the promise we're always talking about, but today we're going to talk about another promise. If you take from the poor, then you will lose what you have.
I'm running into so many scams lately, especially internet scams. The poor ripping off the poor, the poor ripping off the rich, the rich ripping off the poor… Whatever, you name it! This is not the way to blessings, this is not the way to true riches. If you're scamming or just taking from people who need it, then one day you'll find yourself in need. I can't help but to think of the phrase, "What goes around, comes around." On Saturday, we talked about how bad revenge is, and how the Lord will avenge us. This is a shining example of just that. The Lord doesn't just avenge us, He gives hard lessons. If a rich person takes from the poor to get richer, then one day he'll find out what it's like to be poor like the people he steals from.
Today's devotion is titled, "An Odd Promise," because we often expect God's promises to be "favoring" towards us. Well, this promise is, but not if you're on the wrong side of the fence!
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who've wronged us. Help us to give to the poor and not to take from them. Help us to do all people right. In Jesus name. A-men!
God bless
