Want Revenge?
Saturday's Devotion (2-3-07)
"Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee." Proverbs 20:22 (KJV)
Wow, and to think that some people claim that the Bible was written by mere mortal men. I don't know one man that wouldn't want to hurt a guy that fornicated with his wife. I don't know one man that doesn't want revenge for one thing or another... That is, I don't know one man (Or woman for that matter,) that doesn't have Christ in his/her heart who doesn't want revenge.
Revenge is in our sinful nature, but we must realize that God can avenge us much better than we could ourselves. If you take vengeance upon yourself, then not only will your enemy pay for his wrongs, but you will also pay for yours. God does not favor any man. If you take revenge on someone, then you are guilty too! I've noticed that revenge doesn't always work out the way you planned either. It can back-fire, it can hurt all the wrong people, it can even hurt the "right people," but you're still going to feel guilty. You're still going to feel dirty. Revenge is a dirty business, if you want to keep your hands clean then keep them out of the revenge business. It's never going to go "right" for us, and that's simply because we're not supposed to be in that business. Our hands are to be clean, they are to represent the hands of Christ... They need to be loving, caring, giving, healing, and all that good stuff. If you dirty those hands, then they can't represent God's hands. God's hands are not dirty, they are clean. And by dirty of course I don't mean physically dirty. I'm not saying that you need to wash your hands (although it would be nice if you did.) LOL! I'm talking about your spiritual life, you need to stay spiritually pure. Of course that is impossible without the blood of Jesus, it's impossible without God's mercy and forgiveness. But revenge is the act of an unforgiving heart, and the Bible says that if you don't forgive others then God is unable to forgive you. God wants to forgive you, so please let Him and forgive others. Let him handle judgment, you don't need to! May the burden of a vengeful heart be lifted from you by the grace of God.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive those who've wronged us. You know our hearts even better than we do, if there be any person that we haven't forgiven then help us to forgive them. Don't let us seek revenge, but instead let us replace the hate with love. In Jesus name. A-men!
God bless
