Get Inside!
Monday's Devotion (1-15-07)
"And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding." Job 28:28 (KJV)
If you want wisdom (and I do hope that everyone reading wants wisdom,) then all you have to do is fear the Lord! To fear the Lord is wisdom, but fearing the Lord means respecting Him and obeying Him. Of course to obey Him, you have to know what He wants you to do or not do, and that's where the Bible is going to come in. Departing from evil is understanding, but departing from evil is also fearing the Lord. So, pretty much if you have wisdom you also have understanding. One in the same pretty much.
Some would confuse wisdom with worldly knowledge. Wisdom is not worldly knowledge, wisdom is spiritual knowledge! People with worldly knowledge we call, "intelligent," or, "smart." When you have spiritual knowledge which comes from God, then you have wisdom! Have you ever had someone try to show you how smart they are? It's like, "Ok, that's nice you're smart about the things that will not matter when this earth is gone." I'd rather have wisdom than worldly smarts. What you have to remember though is that wisdom isn't just spiritual knowledge, but it is the practice of applying that knowledge to your life. I can know everything that the Bible teaches, but still live like a fool if I'm not applying it to my life. While it is true that the Word of God will change you, you still have to desire a change! God is not going to say, "Ok, this person studies the Bible I'll change them for my glory." He isn't going to force you to change if you don't want to change, no matter what you do. You have to have the desire to be right with God, and yes studying God's Word might just give you that desire, but that's not enough! You have to be trying to apply the scriptures to your life. Just like if you want to be a boxer, you can't just study a bunch of tapes and never get into the ring and apply what you have learned and call yourself a boxer! You're not a boxer if you've never put the gloves on and stepped into the ring and applied your skill. You're not a musician if you just listen to music, you have to actually perform it to be a musician! All you are is someone standing on the outside looking in, and I hope that you are not standing on the outside looking in when it comes to your walk with God. Get inside, and don't even look out!
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who've wronged us. Give us wisdom and understanding, which only comes from you. Open the eyes of our hearts, and let us apply your Word to our lives. Don't let us stand on the outside looking in, help us to get both feet in the door and to shut that door behind us. In Jesus name. A-men!
God bless
