Watch What You Watch!

Wednesday's Devotion (5-3-06)

"The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!" Matthew 6:22-23 (KJV)

It's important to watch what you watch. In other words, don't look at evil. Don't stare at the girl/man next door in a perverted way. Don't turn on pornography and other perverse television. I don't watch horror movies anymore, I used to love them. Now, they give me spiritual warfare and they give me a bad feeling inside. A feeling of darkness, I don't like that feeling. BUT, it's not just a feeling. It's very important that you don't let your eyes see unholy things. Have you ever noticed that the bad things you see, especially when you're a child they can scar you permanently? I have seen evil things in real life (not on television,) that have scarred me. Images that I just can't get rid of. I can forget about them, but they always come back. It does something not just to your mind, but to your soul. A spiritual raping if you will.

If you have children, it's important to watch what they watch too. Their minds are more vulnerable than anything. When I was a child I thought, "That's garbage! Just because I'm a kid people think that my mind is vulnerable." Well, it was! I was addicted to fast food as a child. We watched the "Super Size Me" film recently and it explained why. As a child the soda, and the other things involved in fast food are too much for a child's mind to handle. It's like an over load in the brain. The same goes for watching evil things, or seeing evil things happen. Awhile back I wrote an article against the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment,) because they aired things like The Undertaker telling people: "Give your souls to the lord of darkness." Not only that, but at one time they had a story of him hanging his opponents on a cross and "sacrificing them." That's not the only bad thing from that show either, but we won't get into that. That's just an example and a good one too, because my parents let me watch it. My mom watched it with me! She (like me,) thought of it as innocent entertainment. It's important that you don't be ignorant as to what you are putting into your own mind, and into the mind of your children. Your children are the future of the world! I will go as far to say this too: Don't just watch what goes into your eyes, but watch what goes into your ears! Subliminal messages in music and television can really do a number to one's mind and spirit. By viewing and listening to evil, you are giving Satan some control over you.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins as we forgive all those who've wronged us. Help us to beware of what we put into our minds and spirits. Don't let us be over-come by the evil of the world. In Jesus name. A-men!
