Don't Say Anything At All!
Thursday's Devotion (4-27-06)
"All the words of my mouth are in
righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them." Proverbs 8:8 (KJV)
Yesterday, I talked about deepening your worship life and
how to do that. When I saw today's verse, I immediately thought, "You know, I
left this out yesterday." Have you ever said something bad and then someone told
you: "Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?" Well, I'm not afraid to admit
it, but I have! I'm not proud of it, but I'm not going to lie to you. Anyway, it
is disrespectful to the Lord to use your mouth for evil and then worship Him
with that same tongue. So, you just got done telling so and so where to go, and
now you're going to tell the Lord, "Praise be thy name!" That's very
disrespectful to the Lord. Think He doesn't think of it that way? Think again! I
encourage you to read James 3:5-10. That will prove the point that I'm trying to
make here.
"All the words of my mouth are in righteousness..." That part of today's verse
says a lot on it's own. To speak only righteousness is to never tell a lie, it's
to never use profanity, it's to never talk perverse, it's to edify others with
your mouth. To edify is to encourage others and to help lift their spirits. That
means you shouldn't murmur about people. No more saying, "You're going to hell!"
under your breath. If you want to be right with God, you have to be right with
your neighbors! That's just saying that you have to try and do them right, you
shouldn't speak against people in a way that's AGAINST them. I'm not saying that
you can't offend people, because God knows that you will when you speak the
gospel. But the intentions of your words should be to bring good towards others,
your words shouldn't bring any harm to anyone. If you're not speaking
righteously, then that's going to hinder your worship life! Don't justify
yourself by saying, "I don't speak unrighteousness, I just type it!" It's the
same thing! If you are serious about your walk with Jesus, then be serious about
the words that come out of your mouth. If you can't say anything good about
someone, then don't say anything at all. Maybe that's why nobody posts messages
back to me on here, ha-ha.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things.
Please forgive us of all our sins, and we forgive those who've wronged us. Help
us to speak righteousness and not unrighteousness. May our mouths be used as
tools for good and not for evil. In Jesus name. A-men!
God bless!
