To Lose Before You Begin
Thursday's Devotion (4-6-06)
"He that loveth silver shall not be
satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also
vanity." Ecclesiastes 5:10 (KJV)
Being content is the only way to be satisfied. If you love
silver you won't be happy with a lot, because you'll always want more and more.
You can never have enough. Just like if you're on drugs... My cousin was on
drugs, and my dad was addicted to smoking tobacco. My cousin would say things
like, "I'll be happy when I have my drugs!" My dad was, "I need cigarettes!"
When they got more, more wasn't enough. Why? Because they'd just run out of the
stuff and be left wanting more. This goes for so many more things other than
drugs, it goes for about everything. You have to stop wanting more and start
appreciating what you already have, because more will not make you happy! The
only thing that will bring happiness is being content in the Lord, Jesus Christ.
I'm convinced that it's sin to always want more, especially when you never want
to give anything in return. You have casinos that take tons of money from
people, do you think they ever give anything back? You might say, "Well, people
do win in the casino too!" Well, think about it... People spend millions of
dollars at the casinos and maybe only win thousands. They give you a little so
you'll stay and give them a lot more! My dad used to work in a casino as a Poker
dealer. He told me that they rigged the cards and let people win once in a great
while, so they would stay and spend more money. This is a prime example of
greed. I hate casinos, because my mother thought she could "get ahead" with
them. She always went to the casinos and she lost more than she ever won.
Therefore, she never did win in the long run. But did the casino owners win? Are
they winners? Does it take a winner to NEVER be content and to never be happy
with what they have already? I don't think so, I think they've already lost
before they even started.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things.
Please forgive us of all our sins, and we forgive all those who've wronged us.
Please help us to be content with you, and with the wonderful blessings you have
given us. Help us not worry and want more. In Jesus name. A-men!
God bless!
Hope you enjoyed. Please post your thoughts on this topic, on the
