Become Closer With The Creator

Wednesday's Devotion (3-29-06)

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)

I love when I say, "You need to read the Bible," and people say, "The Bible doesn't say that." That's just further proof that they don't read their Bibles, because the Bible does tell us to study it! I know a lot of Christians, and you know what seems to be a problem? The problem is that we have time to read several other worldly books, we have time to watch television, play video games, etc... BUT we don't have the time to read our Bibles. I read my Bible every day, I still have time to watch some television and even play some video games if I want to. I can even read other books, if I wanted to. Sure there are more things to do than just those things, but if you ask me: Everyone has time for God if they want to have it! You know what else I think the problem is? I think that my mother-in-law nailed it on the head one day. She told me that when she first got saved she thought she had to read 10-20 chapters of the Bible in the morning and then 10-20 at night. I think that that's too much! It's more than you can comprehend. It's better to read a little and to understand all that you read, then to read a lot and understand nothing. It's better to have time to study a little than time to study nothing. When I say, "You need to read the Bible every day," I don't mean that you need to read the whole book every day. The point is that you need to continue learning about our Lord, Jesus Christ. I'm not asking that you become a Bible scholar over night, I don't think God wants us to become one quite that fast.

Why must we know the Bible? So we can have answers for unbelievers, and so we can become closer with Christ ourselves! Nobody ever had a close relationship with someone they know nothing about! When you learn the Bible, it's not about being able to make quotes and tell the verse numbers. It's not about showing off your knowledge, it's just about having knowledge about the God that you worship! Only when you have that knowledge can you become closer with the creator. Before I started to read the Bible, I could've written a book filled with false doctrines. A book filled with what I thought was the Word of God. You know how it would've started? Chapter one would've said, "And if your neighbor steals your car, then you go and steal their car and their house!" I'm not kidding, my book would've said something like that even though the real Bible says differently. A lot of views that I had and thought were right, were very wrong. If you've lived in this world for even one day without Christ, then you need to be reprogrammed! And guess what? Everyone has lived without Christ at one time or another. I don't care if you're the pope, you can't tell me that you were born a saint! So start dusting off those Bibles. If you don't have a Bible, then you can use:
http://www.blueletterbible.org, they even have study tools on their website. If you've read today's devotion, then post here and tell us: Do you read the Bible, and how often? I'm taking a survey.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins, and we forgive all those who've wronged us. Please help us to know you through your Word, and may we be able to understand what is written in the Bible. In Jesus name. A-men!

God bless!
