It's My Life?
Monday's Devotion (3-27-06)
"He that tilleth his land shall have plenty
of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough. A
faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich
shall not be innocent." Proverbs 28:19-20 (KJV)
I'd like some honest opinions posted here on these verses.
Is it wrong to try and "get rich quick," or is it only wrong if it comes at
another man's expense? I'm going to tell you why I think it is wrong. If you're
not earning your keep by doing something that's useful to others, then I think
it's wrong to make money off of worthless actions. For example, have you ever
gotten mail that said, "Mail me five dollars for information on how to earn
quick money," and you did only to get a letter back that says, "Do what I did?"
How is that a useful service for the community? It's not! That doesn't produce,
that doesn't help us grow. On the other hand, if you work (no matter where,) in
a place that provides a service or if you provide a real service, then you are
serving the community. I recently ordered some business cards for
GodsLovingKindness.com, selling business cards is a valuable service. It helps
people to promote their business or services. Incase you're wondering the cards
will say, "Having a tough time? Call on me, Jesus Christ! I'm always available,"
then it shows our website address in smaller print. Anyway... I've really
thought about the kind of job I'd like to end up in. I don't want to scam people
for money, I want to deserve my money. I wouldn't feel right about taking
peoples' money and not giving something valuable in return. Would you?
However, I won't lie and tell you that I've never tried to think up schemes to
make money. I also have to tell you, none of my schemes ever worked! Can you
believe that? I've heard of people with much worse ideas that make tons of
money... They can have their money though, because it's not honest money. When
they sit down to eat at night they're only eating food that belongs to someone
else. When you sit down to eat, would you rather say, "Thanks Lord for my job
and for helping me earn this food, and thank you for this food..." or would you
rather say, "I wonder if some little boy or girl some where aren't eating
because I scammed their parents?" I believe that when you don't provide a real
service, someone pays for it. You make a lot of money yeah, but some where
someone is paying for it. There's a circle of life (Sorry for ripping off Lion
King.) But it's true. What we do effects other people. I've heard people say,
"Don't tell me what to do! It's my life." Mainly my sister speaking to my
mother. ;) But where is the line drawn from our lives to the lives of others? At
what point do our actions start to effect other people? Let's hear your
thoughts, your thoughts are always welcome to any devotional posted. We want
some good conversations, and I think that today's devotion would be a real good
start.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message, and for all things.
Please forgive us of all our sins, and we forgive all those who've wronged us.
Please help us to think of each other always. May every job we do produce
something good for others too. In Jesus name. A-men!
God bless!
Hope you enjoyed. Please post your thoughts on this topic, on the
message board or in our
Guestbook.
