What Defiles a Man?

Friday's Devotion (3-24-06)

"There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man." Mark 7:15 (KJV)

Some people think that God is just looking for wrongs. They think that God has marked everything as, "sin." Some of you will say that being a Christian is "no fun." I say that it's the most fun I've ever had in my life, but let's get to the point. Every thing you do is not a sin, even if it seems weird to you. It might seem weird to eat without washing your hands, but if you do... That's fine with God. Might not make your doctor happy though. Well, it might make your relatives sickened by you too, but that's beside the point. You can eat whatever you want without feeling guilty.

The scripture says that what goes into a man can't defile him, but what comes out is what defiles a man. And this is talking about foods, words and actions. Foods can't defile you, but words and actions (which come out of you from your heart,) these are the things that can defile you. I have a song here from "The Kry," it says something like "They kill their children and cry let's save the whales today." You can eat a whale or whatever you want to eat, but if you harm other people with words or with actions then you have sinned against God. I hear of people who think it's sinful to eat meat. To each his own when it comes to food, but it is definitely not sinful so as long as you give thanks to God for your meals.

Side note: I was just thinking, Christianity is a weird concept. When you accept Christ you look for a life of peace with all people, but at the same time... You know that you will be persecuted, and maybe you'll even have to die for your faith one day. One thing is for certain, you'll have a clear conscience. You'll know that you tried to live at peace with others, if you really tried. That was just a random thought I had, I hope that I made it easy to understand.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins and we forgive all those who've wronged us. Help us to be thankful for our meals, and everything else you give us. Help us to know what things really defile us and to keep away from those things. Help us to be at peace with everyone. In Jesus name. A-men!

God bless!
