Be Mistaken!
Monday's Devotion (3-20-06)
"Thy word is true from the beginning: and
every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever." Psalm 119:160 (KJV)
Everything that is written in the Bible is true, and
everything that God Himself speaks to your heart is true. You just have to make
sure that it is God who is speaking to you. If it goes along with the teachings
of the Bible, then it's God. If it goes against the teachings of the Bible, it's
certainly not God. The point is, that you must know the Bible. If you don't know
it already, then you need to learn it and learn it again. From personal
experience and through the testimonies of others, I have learned that you don't
learn everything the first time you read the Bible through. Actually, you may
never learn everything, but you always learn something new from it. The Word of
God is amazing, and it's alive. You could read something today that you read
last week and learn something new, maybe because it will speak to you about your
current situation. Have you ever read the Bible and just said, "That's so true.
I never thought of it like that before!" Well, I have and I've said it on
scriptures that I've read a hundred times over. To me, that's a testimony of how
God's Word is truly alive and able to give us understanding.
Some of you haven't found the change that comes with knowing Christ, that could
be because you don't know Him well enough. This is why we're given the Bible, to
learn about our God. Have you ever played role-playing games? You know, games
where you have to act in a character and not as yourself? Let's say that you
have to play one of these games and role-play as Mr. T from the A-Team or
something, but the problem is that you don't know anything about the person you
need to play the role of. How are you going to do it? That's right, you're not
going to do it! You can't. There's a song from Warren Barfield that I really
like, it's called, "Mistaken." The main line in the song is, "I wanna be
mistaken for you Jesus." He wants people to see Jesus in him and not himself. He
can't do that if he doesn't know Jesus well enough. That's where the Bible comes
in! Of course you can guess what the character of Jesus is like and what He
would do, but guessing isn't effective. Guessing isn't effective because it
leaves room for doubt, and when it comes to Jesus... It's very important that
you BELIEVE! It's also important that you represent Him well. There's more to
Jesus than the ten commandments, a whole lot more my friends. Get to know Him
and your life will change for the better forever! Be mistaken for Jesus!
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message, and for all things.
Please forgive us of all our sins, and we forgive all those who've wronged us.
Please help us to know your Son and to be like your Son, Jesus. Don't let us
guess what He is like, let us know through your Word. In Jesus name. A-men!
God bless!
Hope you enjoyed. Please post your thoughts on this topic, on the
message board or in our
Guestbook.
