Vain Works?

Thursday's Devotion (3-16-06)

"Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain." Psalm 127:1 (KJV)

My understanding of this scripture might be a lot different than yours, but here goes: I would say that this scripture is saying that everything we do is just temporary, but what God does is eternal. If God builds a house then it's not going to burn down, if God watches over a city then the city will be safe. Anything we put our hands to can be destroyed.

What will we do then? How can our works not be in vain? They're not in vain if they're the works of the Lord who is living inside of you. I've done things that I know that I couldn't have without Jesus, or at least they wouldn't have been done with quality. We can't put our hands alone to work. We have to have Christ involved for the blessing to be on it. Whatever you do, say a prayer before you do it. Before you go to work, before you study the Bible, before you write, before you build, say a prayer. Whatever you do there is always time to pray before you do it. My dogs used to get loose a lot, they still get loose once in a great while. If I remember to say a prayer before I go after them, then I usually have an easier time getting them home. Let me remind you, these are little Pomeranians, and there are two of them. They are very fast, and we live right down from the main street with all the traffic. A very dangerous situation for animals that get loose, the highway is right down by the main road. I could run after them all day, but if they go in that direction and I'm not praying... I run in vain. Thank God we've been blessed enough that they've never ran that direction, they go the opposite way EVERY time. I've also been looking for a job, but to no prevail. I wasn't praying over it enough, but lately I have been in prayer over it... And I feel that the time is getting closer to where I will get a job. I mean I have been to several interviews, and some of the interviews were for jobs right down the street. I had a perfect location to get to and from work, but I failed to pray enough. I got one more chance for a job that is also right down the street, and this time I feel pretty good about getting it. Your prayer would be appreciated too, and I'll keep you updated. The point is - Don't do your works in vain! Do your works with the hand of Christ involved in them. They are much more successful that way. I'm going to go as far to say this: The hand of Christ is involved in this job that I have the chance of getting. I AM going to get the job because Christ IS involved. I'll come back when I get the job and post on this topic to show you that it makes a difference when you pray and believe. Before you get the chance to say, "He got lucky this time, had nothing to do with God..." I want you to know that I've been looking for a job for nearly four years. I live in California, it's too populated. I'll be back here within a week with the news. Stay tuned! I'll have to dig this up when I get the job, because I'm going to be posting devotions as usual every day.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message, and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins, and we forgive all those who've wronged us. Please help us to trust in you, and to stay in prayer. Let us have all faith in you and not solely in ourselves. In Jesus name. A-men!

God bless!

Hope you enjoyed. Please post your thoughts on this topic, on the message board or in our Guestbook.
