Music Power?

Wednesday's Devotion (3-1-06)

"I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works." Psalm 9:1 (KJV)

This scripture tells us what a lot of us aren't doing enough of, praising God! We aren't giving praise, and we aren't singing praise... Some of us aren't even listening to praise music! Then some of us ask, "How come I'm not happy?" The answer is because you're not making God happy. Yes, God gives blessings, but He also loves to receive YOUR blessings. Your blessings come in the form of praise and worship. If you love God, then this shouldn't be so hard for you. You should be able to praise God easily, and you should believe the words of praise in which you speak. Some of us just want, but we don't want to give. When's the last time you helped a poor man because you wanted to put a smile on God's face? When's the last time you did something just to make God happy? To be perfectly honest with you, I don't know when the last time was for me. We need to search our hearts, and get closer to Jesus Christ than we are.

Let's talk about praise music, or Christian music. What people don't realize is that there are many different types of Christian music, all types actually: From rock to bluegrass. "Well, it doesn't sound as good," some of you say... Those that say that I would guess that they've never listened to it. They never gave it the chance, because in my opinion it sounds much better than the worldly music! I'll tell you why too, because Jesus' performers put all their heart into it! They sound good because they aren't mediocre. They're performing as if unto Jesus Himself, and it is unto Jesus Himself... This means that they hold nothing back. Listening to these performers and their words of praise also draws us closer to Jesus ourselves, especially when we cut the worldly music out of our lives. I used to listen to the classic rock stations, and I listened to some alternative... I thought that it made no difference in my walk with Jesus as many of you think. I've learned that music is one of the most powerful tools, no matter which side is using the tool. This is one of the reasons I've gotten into writing Christian music. Music can shape your thought pattern, and in turn your entire behavior. Music is one of the most powerful tools because we were created to make music for our Heavenly Father. If you start listening to only Christian music, then it'll make a huge difference. It'll draw you 20,000 times closer to Jesus. I feel like 20,000 times is under-rating it too. This is one of the things that I believe very strongly in, and from my experience nothing will ever change my mind about this. So, please don’t knock it until you’ve tried it for yourself! I’d like to hear your experiences with music, whether it be good or bad. Please add your comments.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message, and for all things. Please forgive us of our sins, and we forgive all those who’ve wronged us. Please help us to praise you more often than we do. Help us to have that desire to make you happy. Draw us very close to you and don’t let us go further away. In Jesus name. A-men!

God bless!
