Jesus Wept

Monday's Devotion (1-2-06)

"Jesus wept." John 11:35 (KJV)

Here you read what is the shortest verse in the Bible. It's not a lot to read, but it is definitely a lot to think about. It means a lot to us. What does it mean to us? It means that it's ok to have feelings, it's ok to cry, and it's ok to be sad. It doesn't make you any less of a man, a woman, or a believer in Jesus Christ. Crying is actually something that we should be thankful that we do. It means that our hearts aren't cold, it means that we still care about something, or someone... If you think about it, it's actually a beautiful thing. To think that some people still care enough to cry. If you feel ashamed about crying, then just think: Jesus cried too!

It also makes me think that it's ok to mourn a death of a loved one. Jesus was crying here because Lazarus died... He raised Lazarus back from the dead after he wept. Don't ask me why He did it after He wept. Why weep the death of someone who is coming back immediately after? Maybe to show us that it's ok to mourn? They even had times of mourning in the Bible for the loss of loved ones. To mourn is to be alive. Mourning is perfectly healthy. It helps us to cope with pain.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message, for giving us the ability and heart to weep, and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins, and we forgive all those who've wronged us. Please soften our hearts, and draw us closer to you. For those who are unable to weep, soften their hearts too. Don't ever let us turn into cold, bitter people. In Jesus name. A-men!

God bless!
