Keep A Sound Mind
Tuesday's Devotion (4-19-05)
"And be not drunk with wine, wherein is
excess; but be filled with the Spirit;" Ephesians 5:18 (KJV)
Is it ok to drink alcohol as Christians? Read my question carefully, and answer
with thought. Most of you said, "No!" But you confused drinking alcohol with
getting drunk. The scripture says, "...Be not drunk with wine, wherein is
excess..." Excess means too much. If you're drunk, then you have drank too much!
It has actually been proven that one glass of wine a day, is good for us. It's
good for our health, but if we drink too much... It's bad for our health. Does
that tell you anything? Jesus also made wine for his disciples out of water. The
sin of alcohol, is getting drunk with it. It's just like money, it's not sin to
have money... But the love of money is sin! It's all about what you do with it,
and what you would do for it.
We're not to be drunk, but we need to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Our bodies
are temples. They're temples to the Holy Spirit. He lives in us. Since he lives
in us, we need to respect Him. We have reverence for our guests when they come
over, we need to have reverence for the Holy Spirit. When we're drunk we are
driven to do bad things, and we have not control over our own minds and bodies.
But when we're filled with the Holy Spirit, we are driven to do good, and we are
given a sound mind. There is no chaos when you're filled with the Spirit.
Everything is about balance. We're given medical drugs to help us when we're
sick, but we shouldn't take more than we need. We shouldn't take a bunch to get
drunk. We need to keep a sound mind, and we need to be filled with the Holy
Spirit.
Note: You should take into mind that alcoholism runs in families. If your family
has a high backgrounds of drug abuse, or alcoholism, then you should stay clear
of it altogether.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things.
Please forgive us of all our sins, and we forgive all those who've wronged us.
Please help us not to be drunks, but to be filled with the Holy Spirit. In Jesus
name. A-men!
God bless!
