Not To Be Taken Lightly

Friday's Devotion (4-8-05)

"Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you." Deuteronomy 4:2 (KJV)

You know what really bugs me? I've seen people both add and take away from scriptures. I've seen people replace words to make a "Modern statement." I don't believe in changing anything in the Bible. The scriptures themselves even tell us not to. Even though they say, "Don't do it," the world does it! Some people don't realize how dangerous this is, and other people are just out to deceive others. This is something that we must look for! This is also why it's important to be alert in church. Even if you know the scriptures well, and you go to church: Let's say you're mind is wandering, and your minister is deceiving the entire church with lies. That is going to effect you... because whether or not you know it, this stuff is going into your head! Not only that, but you need to know to warn the others in church. We have to watch out for our brothers and sisters. People take this subject too lightly, and they don't have reverence for God's Word! That's what you'll like about this site, I have reverence for the Word. If I make a mistake, then it's truly a mistake and I want to know about it. When you point out my mistake, I will listen and I'll repent over and over for that. That's how bad I would feel. Beware of these people that don't even care. If they don't have that much reverence for God's Word, then there's something to be worried about. People who know the Bible, but have no reverence for it... are dangerous people. Even Satan knows the Bible, but he has no respect/reverence for it. He deceives many people that way. He'll tell you something about the scriptures, but not in full context. It's like reading a book out of context: If you read a certain part of a book that says, "You will die if you don't eat the apple," someone could change that to say, "You will die if you don't eat." That's a whole different definition there! You can go eat, but if you don't eat the apple... you die. It's very important to get the real scriptures, and the full meaning. Another example would be this: My brother told me that my nephews and nieces came home from church, saying, "God died and is dead." Obviously, they either missed the resurrection part, or they weren't told about it. That's a big deception.

How can we prevent deception in our lives, and in the lives of those around us? We need to know the Bible, that means we must read it and study it! Also, when we're being ministered to, we need to pay attention. You could be ministered to at home, at a movie, at a concert, at a sporting event, etc. Some movies, etc will even sneak messages in. You'll hear something in a movie or etc, that is there to deceive. You have to beware. You're living in a world where Satan runs wild. This is like his playground, and if you play with him... you will get burned! Most importantly: Don't take today's message/warning lightly. Be true to the Lord, and to yourself.

I just want to add one last thing. This is something that really saddens me. Some people are so deceived by their teachers, that you can't ever get them to accept the truth. You can show them the scriptures that prove your point, but they just won't believe it. This is called, "Hardening of the heart." Don't let it happen to you.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins, and we forgive all those who've wronged us. Help us not to deceive, not to be deceived, and to lead people away from deception. In Jesus name. A-men!

God bless!
