Heal The Sick

Thursday's Devotion (4-7-05)

"Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him." James 5:14-15 (KJV)

Today's devotion is titled, "Heal The Sick." Because a couple of weeks back I think it was, I said, "As Christians we heal the sick, we don't kill the sick!" It is lack of faith to put a sick/disabled person to death. We need to be healers, because life is precious, and it's precious for all. It's not just precious for the healthy. But it is more enjoyable for the healthy. So, our responsibility is to make the unhealthy person's life more enjoyable. Our job is to give them health through the healing power of the Holy Spirit! Are you with me? As followers of Christ, we are given the power to heal... if we have the faith. Faith is the key in doing this. When we say, "I wish I could do something for them," or "I hate seeing them this way, we should remove life support." All of that is lack of faith. We need to say, "By the stripes of Christ, ye are healed!" Most importantly, we need to believe our words.

These scriptures tell us to get the elders of the church. It also, says to anoint the sick with oil in the name of the Lord. What you have to understand here, is that these things are faith builders. They aren't necessary for healing. I'm not contradicting the scriptures, they should be followed... However, I have prayed by myself with no oil, and I've been healed. There is more power in numbers, and I'm sure that the anointing oil is good... BUT faith is the main ingredient. Without faith you can't be healed. You have to believe that God is able. God is able to heal you, no matter what.

Today, you found out that you have the power to heal. You can both heal and be healed. Many people say, "Be healed, if it's God's will!" It's important that we know... THAT IT IS GOD'S WILL! When Jesus healed people and gave the power of healing, he didn't say, "Heal and be healed, if it's God's will!" The will of the Father is that those who believe will be saved. That word "IF" is a doubt builder. It will bring you doubt. With that in mind, throw that IF out the window.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Forgive us of all our sins, and we forgive all those who've wronged us. Help us to have faith to heal and be healed. Draw us closer with your loving-kindness. In Jesus name. A-men!

God bless!
