The Things I'd Rather Have!
Thursday's Devotion (3-24-05)
"Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but
righteousness delivereth from death." Proverbs 11:4 (KJV)
Riches are something that a lot of us want, but a lot of us can't handle. If you
became rich today: When you get seriously ill, will you just go pay for surgery
or would you trust God like old times? Will you trust God for your daily food,
or will you say, "I don't have to depend on God anymore, now I can just buy,
buy, buy!" These are the things that make it hard for a rich man to enter God's
Kingdom. A rich man has a much harder time putting his trust in the Lord. With
that in mind, do you really need to be rich? No! All you need to do is trust
God. If God trusts you with riches, then so be it, but you have to use those
riches according to His will!
There are some things that money can't buy: Love, salvation, peace, Fruits of
the Spirit, and there's more. These are things that I'd be willing to give up
everything for. These are the true riches. They're the true riches, especially
in this painful life we're in. We need comfort, we need love, we need peace, we
need salvation! The question is: Are you willing to give up everything for it?
You have to love the Lord that much! The reward is that He'll love you much more
in return. The reward is that He loves you much more right now, but He needs you
to submit to Him. Is there something in your life, that's preventing you from
submitting to God? I'd rather have the things of God! Wouldn't you?
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things.
Please forgive us of all our sins and we forgive all those who've wronged us.
Please help us to trust in you and nothing else. Make us not care about any
riches except your Heavenly riches. Make us willing to give up our riches on
earth for Heavenly riches. In Jesus name. A-men!
God bless!
