What About The Sabbath Day?

Monday's Devotion (3-21-05)

"And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days. Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other." Matthew 12:11-13 (KJV)

The Sabbath Day is a holy day, that the Lord has set aside for our rest. The Sabbath is on the seventh day of the week. Most people celebrate it on Sunday, the first day of the week. Saturday is really the seventh day of our week. I don't believe that it matters, I think it is all about where your heart is and as long as you celebrate it one day of the week. That's just my opinion.

These scriptures give us an example, of when it's ok to work on the Sabbath. Let's say that it's the Sabbath Day and you see someone stranded on the street in their car. Let's say that you're a mechanic that can fix the car and help them on their way. It would be wrong to say, "Today is the Sabbath, I can't help them!" Think about it. God rested on the 7th day right? That's how the Sabbath was made. However, God never takes a break from helping people. He never takes a break from answering prayers and healing people. The one thing we are to never take a break from, is doing good to others and doing the will of God. Some of you work 7 days a week. You take no breaks, not even for the Sabbath. You ask, "Why do I need to take a break for the Sabbath?" The Sabbath Day was made for man. It was made for a reason. Like I've said before, my mom worked 2 jobs most of my life. She had no days off from both jobs. She was always working one or both of those jobs. It's not healthy, it's not healthy for the body, for the mind, or for the spirit. We need rest or else God wouldn't of invented the Sabbath, and He wouldn't of invented sleep. All work and no rest will make you on edge and it'll make you get short with people. What I mean by that is, if you have no rest then you will get mean with people easily. Our main job is to be a light to save many souls. We can't do that properly, if we're over-worked and under-rested.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins and we forgive all those who've wronged us. Help us to keep the Sabbath Day holy and to remember to still do good. In Jesus name. A-men!

God bless!
