Temptation

Sunday's Devotion (3-20-05)

"Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed." James 1:13-14 (KJV)

A lot of us are being tempted, but some of us say, "God is tempting me!" God doesn't tempt anyone. When you're tempted, it's because you have lusts and the devil is taking advantage of a weak area. If you eat too much, then the devil is going to say, "Have some more cake, it's okay! Just one serving won't hurt." You're tempted when you have low self-control or when you're weak. I'm tempted the most when I'm tired and sick. Anyway, never blame God for the work of the devil and vice-versa. Also this gives us another thought: God can't even be tempted with evil, that means that He can't even do one evil thing. With that in mind, stop blaming God for everything that goes wrong!

God won't tempt you, but He'll do something else. What He does is good as always. God will put good and holy desires upon your heart. God will put love in your heart and not lust. He'll give you a passion for life, a passion for other people, a passion for Him and a desire to do good! This isn't tempting, this is a desire. A desire is something that you want to do, tempting is something that you don't want to do, but someone is trying to get you to do it. Lust is a bad thing. When we lust, we're usually lusting over something we can't have or something that isn't good for us. A desire is more of a passion, a love for something. The Lord will put a love of doing good in our hearts. Are you fulfilling lusts and giving into temptations, or are you filled with the good will and desire of the Lord?

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins and we forgive all those who've wronged us. Please help us not to give into lusts and temptations. Help us to have a desire to do good and bring us closer to you. In Jesus name. A-men!

God bless!
