Serve
Wednesday's Devotion (2-23-05)
"And whosoever will be chief among you, let
him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but
to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many." Matthew 20:27-28 (KJV)
This is a pretty weird thing to think about. Who is
greater the man who serves or the man who is rich and does nothing, but be
waited on? If you answered, "The rich man." Why did you answer that? Why is he
greater? Is it because he gets to sit around and do nothing to contribute? These
scriptures say that he isn't greater, they say that the servant is greater.
People on earth don't think of it this way, but we should, because this is how
it'll work when we go to be with the Lord! If you want to be great up there in
Heaven, then you must be a servant down here on earth!
You might recall the slave days, both in our country and in Egypt. Let's look at
the Egypt slave days first. Who got the reward? The Hebrew slaves did. Who got
the punishment? The Egyptians did! Only a few slaves made it to their reward, but
it was the slaves that did. The other slaves complained too much in the
wilderness with Moses, they didn't have faith in God. Since they had no faith in
God, God cut them off and didn't let them receive the promised land. Let's look
at the American slaves now. A lot of these slaves found faith and comfort in
God. Even though it isn't in the Bible, we have to believe that these slaves
were rewarded. They served cruel owners, much like the Hebrew slaves. They
suffered so much on earth. We have to believe that the cruel people who enslaved
them, were punished by God unless they repented. Read the parable about Lazarus
in the Bible. It can be found in Luke 16:19. Read that all the way through, it's
a nice parable and it goes along with this.
The point of today's devotion is to tell you, we need to serve. We don't need to
be slaves, but we need to serve because we choose to serve. There are good works
that need to be done, but not many willing to do them. Are you ready to step up
and serve? Serve others and serve God! When you do, you'll find a reward when
your life on earth comes to an end.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things.
Please forgive us of all our sins and we forgive all those who've wronged us.
Please help us to serve you and the people around us. Make us great in the
Kingdom of God and bring us closer to you. In Jesus name. A-men!
God bless!
Hope you enjoyed. Please post your thoughts on this topic, on the
