Be Responsible Children of God!

Wednesday's Devotion (2-16-05)

"He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse." Proverbs 28:27 (KJV)

Today's devotion is going to go with yesterday's. Let's look at this scripture, the part that says, "He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack..." That's a promise and the second part of this scripture is also a promise, but let's focus on this part for a moment. Parents, if your children did something good for someone else, would you reward them? Children, if you have done something good for someone else, have you been rewarded by your parents? Most parents will reward their children, because it blesses them to see their child do good to others. A reward is also encouragement, it encourages us to keep doing good. It shows us that what we did, is appreciated. I remember going shopping for this household of five and coming back with the groceries, people complained about what we got. We always did the shopping, no one else wanted to, but they wanted to complain about our shopping. This discouraged me greatly, because I tried. I almost stopped going to the store completely. I said, "They don't like it, let them shop!" If I had been treated nicely and just asked, "Can you get this next time?" then I wouldn't have minded going to the store. It would've encouraged me, instead of discouraging me. The point is that if we do good to others, then God wants to encourage us. He'll encourage us with rewards to say, "My child, you have done well!" Have you been doing well? Count your blessings to find out! Don't have many blessings? That's because you don't give any to others! What goes around, comes around!

Let's look at the second part of this verse, "...but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse." I believe that the curse is poverty! If you have what someone is in need of, then you need to give it or one day it'll be you in that situation! God blesses His children, but sometimes His children will be so blessed, that they actually forget where the blessing came from. The Lord will entrust us with riches to do the right thing with, if we don't then we better be ready to lose it all! Let's go back to a parenting example: If you give your child a pen that is to write with, and the child pokes someone's eye out with it instead, will you take the pen back? God is able to take away the things that He gives us, if we don't act responsibly with them! Be responsible children of God!

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins and we forgive all those who've wronged us. Please help us to help others. Also help us to be your responsible children, when we receive blessings may we keep giving more to others. In Jesus, name. A-men!

God bless!
