Go Back To The Base!
Saturday's Devotion (2-5-05)
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a
workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” 2
Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
Today’s devotion is going to go along with yesterday’s. In
yesterday’s devotion you were shown how you could be deceived by someone who
doesn’t rightly divide the scriptures. You can make this mistake by error too,
it’s not always because you mean to deceive someone. This scripture tells us to
study the Bible to show ourselves approved to God, a workman that doesn’t need
to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. That pretty much means to
study and know the scriptures good enough to where we know what we’re talking
about and to where there are no mistakes when ministering it to others. You can
deceive someone without knowing it and you can even deceive yourself!
This is one of those things where people say, “I don’t need to read the Bible to
be saved!”.. The scriptures say, “And that from a child thou hast known
the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through
faith which is in Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 3:15. The Bible
is needed very much, it’s an important part in salvation. Surely none of you
that are saved got saved without hearing some kind of scripture... right? I mean
we all know how to be saved because the Bible gave the answer. “In the
beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John
1:1 (KJV) and we also know that Jesus (The Son) is one
with God (The Father), because He tells us this in the Bible. With all this in
mind, we have to realize that the base of our salvation is the Bible! We are
saved by faith, but, “So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by
the word of God.” Romans 10:17 (KJV). So we now know that
if you’re saved, you’re saved because somewhere along the lines you heard God’s
Word preached or you read it. If you were saved because of God’s Word, then
imagine how much closer it will bring you to Christ and how much more assurance
you will have of that salvation, if you only study His Word. There are two great
things that God, gave us and they are His Spirit and His Word... and they work
together! The Holy Spirit, is able to bring understanding of the Bible and the
Bible helps us to understand the Spirit. That’s not all that they do, but get in
the Word of God and find out personally all the great things that they do as a
team for you! Want to be closer to God? Then go back to the base, go back to
where it all started... go back to the Bible!
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things.
Please forgive us of all our sins and we forgive all those who’ve wronged us.
Please help us to be closer to you, help us to know your Word and to be filled
in your Spirit. Help us to never be deceived and to never deceive anyone else.
In Jesus, name. A-men!
God bless!
