Why Go To Church?
Sunday's Devotion (1-9-05)
"Two are better than one; because they have
a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his
fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to
help him up." Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (KJV)
To me these scriptures explain to us the importance of
going to church. I read my Bible at home each and every day and I couldn't learn
more than that at church. The Spirit of God, teaches me God's Word. I don't need
a church for that and nobody really does need a church for that if they seek the
Word of God. I mean it's good to hear encouraging words that minister to you or
words that correct you, but I can get that online or on television. I've had
people tell me that I need church for those reasons. I really believe that the
main important thing about church is fellowship with one another.
Why fellowship? We need others to encourage us and lift us up. We need people
who care about us and are willing to help us out. If you were to get addicted to
drugs, would you have a group to help encourage you to quit and get right with
God? If you're all alone then you're in a danger zone. I've used this example
before, but I believe it's a good one from my personal experience. When I first
got saved and started reading my Bible everyday, I started to go through a
spiritual change inside. I was growing in the Lord and I was about 17 years old.
I was still living at home, but I talked to my now wife on the phone. We
couldn't talk otherwise because she was in California and I was in Indiana. My
mom took away my dead brother's Bible that I read and said, "This is what's
putting things in your head! I will not let you use your brother's Bible against
me!" I got the Bible back, but time I did my mother already had gotten me so
upset that I told Krista, on the phone, "Maybe, I should stop reading the Bible
until I move out of here." She told me in a way that I couldn't do that, that I
needed to put God, first in my life. I didn't quit reading the Bible because I
had encouragement. Without that encouragement all that is on this site and this
site itself may've not been here. I may have even become a backslider if I let
everything knock me away from God, like that. To me all I really need is a Bible
and some fellowship with people. Some people will act like it's all about going
to the church building. It's not about the building or the preacher, but it's
about the Word of God and the people. We the people of God, are the true church.
Let me end this on this note: We need to take away our ignorance and believe in
salvation outside of the church walls. In the last days I think that churches
will be outlawed and all we will have is each other. We won't have no church
building and we can't let that blow us away. We can't think, "Without church, I
can't be saved or I can't stay that way!" You can be saved all by yourself by
Jesus Christ alone, but it's good to have people to encourage you and you need
the Word of God! Don't be ignorant on this subject: Church does not give you
salvation, Jesus Christ does and the Church building doesn't help you up when
you fall the people in that church do!
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things.
Please forgive us of all our sins and we forgive all those who've wronged us.
Please help us to fellowship with one another and to grow in you and your Word.
Bring us closer to you and help us not to fall. Help us not to be ignorant, but
to see the church building for what it really is a place for believers to gather
and fellowship together with you. In Jesus, name. A-men!
God bless!
