Have No Other Master!

Monday's Devotion (4-26-04)

"No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." Matthew 6:24 (KJV)

Yesterday, I talked about truly making Jesus, your Lord. Check that devotion out by clicking here. Today's devotion is going to be along the same lines, but not quite. Yesterday, I talked about how you must obey Jesus, for Him to truly be the Lord of your life. We can not serve two masters or two lords. We can only serve one. Why you ask? These scriptures use the example of mammon and mammon is money. You can't serve God and money, because they both have different laws. The law of money, is to earn and keep, but the law of God, is to earn and give. The law of money is to do whatever it takes to get money, but the law of God, is to not do any unclean thing. If you listen to money, then you're disobeying God!

These scriptures aren't just about money though, but they are to show that we can only have one God! It doesn't matter if your other master is your car, you can not serve two masters! You can not please more than one master! You will either obey one master and not the other. You will either hate or despise one and not the other! My mother was once teaching me to drive and my uncle was also in the car. My mom told me to do one thing and my uncle was telling me to do something completely different. I could not do one of their commands without disobeying the other person's command. I only had one choice and that was to disobey one of those two people. One of those two people, were going to be upset with me. You have to choose which master you want! Take one thing in mind though, only one of those masters can save your soul! Only Jesus Christ, can save you! If something is coming in between you and your walk with the Lord, you need to get rid of that thing and choose the Lord!

Some of you may be confused about something. We as followers of Christ, often call Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit, "Master, Lord and etc." You may wonder how we can call all three those things. It is because they are one. How are they one? They are in agreement with each other. Their ways are the same! That means if you're not pleasing one member of the Holy Trinity, you aren't pleasing any of them! Be pleasing to God and have no other master!

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins and we forgive all those who've wronged us. Please help us to be pleasing to you and help us to not choose any other master, but to make you our one and only master! Please bring us close to you, Lord. In Jesus, name. A-men!

God bless!
