You Can't Control The World!

Saturday's Devotion (4-10-04)

"Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth." Proverbs 27:1 (KJV)

This scripture reminds me of the saying, "Don't count your chickens, before the eggs hatch!" Sometimes we might boast about something that we think will happen the next day or even later on in the same day. Maybe you play a sport or something and you tell your opponent, "I'm going to beat you so badly!" We shouldn't boast like that, because we do not know what a day may bring forth. When I talk like that, I almost always end up eating my words. When I end up losing or not doing what I boasted about doing, it is humbling. Then I'll think, "It was my own fault, I wasn't humble enough!"

Of course we can be confident through prayer. We can have the confidence that something will happen, because of God. If you're going to a job interview it is good to say or think, "I prayed about this and I believe that I will get it!" However, that is different from prideful boasting. That is believing in a miracle from God and that is something you can depend on! We can not depend on ourselves. We can't control everything! You can't control everything, so that means when you go play a game, you might lose and if you plan to get in a fight (Which you shouldn't do in the first place.) you can still lose that fight! You do not control the world, so don't boast like you do! When we boast ourselves of tomorrow, we our putting ourselves higher than we are and we're going to fall and when we do it is a long ways down!

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, please forgive us of all our sins and we forgive all those who've wronged us. Thank you for this message and for all things. Please help us to be humble and not to boast of things that haven't happened and to not even boast about them after they happen. Please bring us closer to you, Lord. In Jesus, name. A-men!

God bless!
