Don't Be Quick To Judge!
Saturday's Devotion (3-20-04)
"Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." Matthew 7:1-5 (KJV)
We as followers often have these huge hang ups of our own and we see someone else with a small problem compared to our problem and we try to correct them. For example lets say that you just stole an automobile and then you see a guy stealing some food to feed his family. Neither of you are in the right, but you go and tell the guy stealing for his family that he shouldn't do that. You say, "What you're doing is wrong!" then not only are you guilty of stealing, but then you're also guilty of being a hypocrite. If you see that it is wrong, you need to go take the automobile back that you stole or don't steal it in the first place and then correct the guy that is stealing food. You might say, "Well, he wouldn't know that I'm being a hypocrite!" let me say that it doesn't matter what others know, as much as it matters what God, knows! The Lord, will judge you for the judgment that you give. If we're being hypocrites that takes away from the power of our teaching. A lot of parents teach their children things, but then the children will catch the parents doing what they were told not to do. Then the children think, "If mommy and daddy do it, it is ok for me to do it! They just don't want me to have any fun!" Also, when we judge others and when we are hypocrites it takes away from our relationship with the Lord. If I judge another man for the same wrong that I am doing, then I know that I'm doing wrong and I'm not listening to what the Lord, is telling me. I would guess that if I'm not obeying the Lord, then my prayers are going to be hindered and I'm going to feel lost. I'm going to be the one suffering for my judgment and for my hypocrisy. The people that I judge won't suffer as much as I will myself for judging them.
You know what else? The saying, "What goes around, comes around!" is so true. If you have income and someone else doesn't and you judge them, then one day the shoe will be on the other hand. They will have income and you will have nothing! It is like a big humbling process. It is kinda like, "Well, if they're going to act all better than this person, then they will walk in this person's shoes for awhile!" Don't judge, unless you want to be a hypocrite and don't judge unless you want to walk in someone else's shoes!
Don't be quick to judge!
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins and we forgive all those who've wronged us. Help us to teach what you want us to live and to live what we teach. Bring us close to you and help us not to judge others. In Jesus, name. A-men!
God bless!
