Do You Want To Be Successful?

Wednesday's Devotion (3-17-04)

"And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted." Matthew 23:12 (KJV)

I find that these scriptures speak to me a lot regarding my life. Whatever I do, whether I'm just playing a game or if I'm doing something else, if I exalt myself by being prideful and over confident, than I usually end up not doing so well. Lets say, I'm playing some kind of game with you and I say, "I'm going to win, you're in trouble!" then most likely, I am going to be eating my own words. My pride is going to come back and punch me right in my face. However, if I'm humble and I present myself in good sportsmanship then I will have a great chance of winning and being exalted. We're to be humble in everything we do. God, doesn't care for pride. I bet when we're prideful it just rubs the Lord, the wrong way all together. I know that I can't stand when people are acting prideful around me. I just wish and maybe even sometimes I'll pray that they'll be proven wrong because of their attitude. It just drives me nuts, but I can be prideful at times and I always get abased or humbled when I am prideful. When I'm humble I usually do good and then when I do good, I sometimes forget why I am doing good and I get prideful. Once I get prideful, I'm once again not doing so well.

There will be a time that every prideful person will be humbled. Whether it is in this life or in the next, the time will come. We need to pray to be humble. You know a lot of athletes and stars get real big and then they get prideful, but then something happens. What happens is they turn into old news. Imagine how humbling it is to be a huge star at one time and then later on have people saying, "Who is that guy?" or "He is yesterday's news!" These stars will get old or their time in the sun will just run out or they will get injured and they will not be able to perform anymore. I've heard about stars that get injured and then they can't do what they love to do anymore and I believe that this is a humbling process. If we exalt ourselves and think we're the best at something, we may some day never be able to do that thing again. If you're going to get anywhere and stay there you must be humble! Humble yourself and be exalted, exalt yourself and be abased! If you want to be successful, you must humble yourself!

Also here is a little note to help those having some trouble. I know that I do not always know all the words in some of the scriptures I write on. So, what I do is I look them up on www.webster.com. So, if I'm speaking on something that you do not know what the word means, please look it up. I thought I should mention this, because I know that I have trouble sometime.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins and we forgive all those who've wronged us. Please humble us, so we can prosper in all that we do. In Jesus, name. A-men!
