Be A Bright Light!

Thursday's Devotion (3-11-04)

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Matthew 5:16 (KJV)

This scripture was sent to me by someone today and I thought it would be nice to write on. We all need to be a light for the Lord, because this scripture says, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." That means that each and every follower of Christ, represents the Lord. If we do good, then other people will glorify God. They will say, "This guy, is really nice and since he is a follower of the Lord, that must be why!" If we're not very good lights then people will say, "All followers are like that! I will never have anything to do with God, if God, is like that!" God, wants us to do good and if we do, we will save many souls. I don't always represent the Lord, very well. Sometimes I do and other times, I completely mess up. We can all use work in this area, if you ask me. If we're shining bright, it doesn't hurt to shine even brighter! If people do not see a difference in us, then they will not know the importance of following the Lord. If we're angry people, causing trouble then they will not see that we have peace. They will not see that we have the Lord. However, being a bright light isn't something that comes over night. This is something that we have to want and pray for. This is something that we all can know is in God's will. So, if it's in God's will you can ask and you will receive. Being a bright light, isn't just putting on a smile. Being a bright light is helping and encouraging others. Being a bright light is not talking bad about others. It is not sitting outside of your church gossiping about why so and so didn't show up to church this Sunday! Being a bright light, is not trying to act spiritual to impress others! To be a bright light, you must have your eyes off of people and on the Lord! That means don't worry about what someone else thinks of you, worry about what the Lord, thinks of you. Once you develop a close relationship, then and only then can you be a light! I can't be a light, if I'm living in sin and neither can you! If you do not have the love of God, in your heart then do not think for a moment that you are being a bright light! Some people are too busy acting spiritual that they can not become spiritual. When you're trying to act spiritual, then it really doesn't work. It doesn't show a bright light. I can usually see right through people like that and if I wasn't a follower of the Lord, then after seeing one of those people I still wouldn't be a follower. Think about that.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for everything. Please forgive us of all our sins and we forgive those who've wronged us. Please bring us close to you and help us be the brightest lights, we can be! We can not be a light without your help. In Jesus, name. A-men!
