We Need To Do More!
Saturday's Devotion (3-6-04)
"Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away." Matthew 5:42 (KJV)
We often make a mistake as believers. The mistake that we make is that we refuse to help those around us in need. People ask us for things and receive them not. A hungry man, asks for money to buy food and we don't give it. If we gave to those who ask and even to those who don't we can make a big difference in their lives. Love and charity, does make a difference! You might say, "Well, no one has asked me, so I do not need to give!" Well, let me say that the homeless person, asks everyday without even saying a word. As you drive by the homeless person, he thinks, "I wish I had at least a car to live in and some food to eat." The homeless people, among others are in need and we do not even hear their cry and if we do hear it, we don't pay attention to it. What if God, was like us and didn't hear our cries and if He did, He didn't care? What would happen to us? We ask of God and He gives! Also, some things that we need we don't even have to ask for. We needed a savior and God, sent His Son. We didn't ask Him to, but we sure appreciate it. Some people don't ask us for help, but they would sure appreciate it! I want to do more myself, I don't feel as if I do enough. I feel that I could do a lot more and I need to start doing it. We all need to pray to be able to do more to help. We drive by the homeless people and don't even stop to help and then we wonder why, they would rather shoot us than to look at us. Some people act like they are sickened by the homeless people, well let me tell you something, I'm sure they are even more sickened by us! They are sickened, because we refuse to help. It's almost like murder, because someone is in need of something and they might die without it and we just keep on going and leave them to die, when we could've saved their lives. How does that thought make you feel? It makes me feel horrible and not even human. We need to do more.
Also, one thing that I want to add before I wrap this up is this: Some people don't want to help people because they think they might use the money for alcohol or drugs. Me personally, I like to give the benefit of the doubt. If you give someone money for food and they use it for drugs, then so be it, at least you did the right thing and helped! On the other hand, if they really need food and you misjudge them, then that person is going to be in trouble and so are you for not helping them. If you help someone, it doesn't matter what they do. What matters is if you helped. That is what matters with God.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins and we forgive those who've wronged us. Give us a spiritual awakening. Help us to know that we need to do more and help us to do it! In Jesus, name. A-men!
God bless!
