Don't Let Pride Make You Look Like A Fool!
Friday's Devotion (3-5-04)
"Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom." Proverbs 13:10 (KJV)
Our pride, causes us a lot of trouble. We debate and contend only by pride. When you're debating that is you, thinking you know something and being too proud to be proven wrong. It is as simple as that! Also, another example of pride is this: let's say that someone stole something from you and the thing that they stole is something you were going to throw in the trash anyway. The pride comes in and says, "So, what if I was going to throw it out! It's the point, that they stole something from me!" so, then you go out and get in a fight with the person, who stole your stuff to get it back. You could end up being the one who gets beaten up too, but you don't think about that because your pride says, "I can take that guy!"
With the well advised is wisdom. The people who really know something, don't really debate about what they know. The ones who know something, also know that they don't need to prove themselves. They don't care if other people think they're dumb, because they know that they don't need to prove anything. Only by pride, do you feel the need to prove that you're not dumb or you're not weak. Pride is sin and that is why it brings so much havoc with it. Pride, is something that we need to pray to get rid of. Think about the last time pride, caused an argument or problem in your life and think about how it could've been solved without all the trouble. When I hear things that I don't agree with sometimes, I'll just keep my mouth shut and not get into the debating. I stay away from it, I know that when someone's pride is so big, I can't possibly win the debate even if I'm right. People with great pride, will never give up until they win.
The only time, I'll jump into a debate is when someone is twisting scripture. If they're twisting scripture we have to get in there and save others from being deceived. What I do though, is I don't fully jump into the debate. I just get in there with scripture and show others that the person is wrong and then I leave and stay out of it. I stay out of it, after I ruin their deception. Mostly all you have to do is quote a few scriptures on why they're wrong and then stay out of it. Because even after you do that, the person will still debate and try to prove you wrong. However, the main point is that you show others that the deceiver is wrong and twisting scripture. If you stay in the debate, the prideful person, will make you look like a fool and then no one will heed your warning. Don't let pride make you look like a fool!
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins and we forgive those who've wronged us. Help us to do rid of our pride and to be closer to you. Give us counsel and wisdom. In Jesus, name. A-men!
God bless!
