If You're Sorry, Why Are You Still Doing It?
Wednesday's Devotion (3-3-04)
"He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us." Psalm 103:10-12 (KJV)
People have no idea, what trouble we would be in if God, rewarded us according to our iniquities. No one would make it to Heaven, if He rewarded us according to our iniquities. If God, rewarded us according to our iniquities, I want you to think about the last sin that you committed and would be punished for. We have so many sins, that we can't even know all the sins we've committed. So, if God, rewarded us according to our iniquities, we would be in trouble for sins that we did not even know about. We would be in so much trouble, but we are not in trouble! We are not in trouble, if we've accepted Jesus Christ! Our sins are removed as far from us as the east is from the west. That is pretty far away. That basically means that our sins are long forgotten by God. God, doesn't have short term memory, but when we mess up and ask for forgiveness, He forgives and He forgets that we ever messed up in the first place. I have trouble forgetting what people did to me, years ago. If God, were anything like me, we'd be in trouble. We go to the Lord, sometimes right after we commit a sin and ask for forgiveness. The Lord, doesn't deny us forgiveness when we ask, so imagine how fast He has to put our sins behind Him and forget about them. It's like a parent can't hold a grudge against their children, neither can God. God, doesn't hold any grudges, but you get my point. However, also to be forgiven of our sins we must turn from our sins. Let me ask you something. If you have a ball in your hand and you want it to fly east, how can it if you don't want to let go of it to throw it? How can our sins go as far from us as the east from the west, if we do not want to give them up to the Lord? That would be like if a man was punching you in the face non-stop and said, "I'm sorry! please forgive me!" while he was still punching. Would you take that man's apology seriously? I wouldn't! If you're sorry, why are you still doing it? If we take our sins and give them to Lord, He will gladly put those sins far away from us, but if we don't ask for forgiveness and if we don't give our sins to Him and stop doing them, we are in trouble!
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message and for all things. Please forgive us of all our sins and we forgive those who've wronged us. Please bring us closer to you and help us to turn from our sins and seek you. In Jesus, name. A-men!
God bless!
