You, Don't Have To Be A Victim Of Temptation!

Sunday's Devotion (2-1-04)

"Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed." James 1:13-14 (KJV)

These scriptures are very important to remember. If you're being tempted you must always realize that you're not being tempted by God. When you are tempted, you are being drawn away by your own lust and enticed. For example if you're married and you see another person of the opposite sex and you're being tempted, it's not God, tempting you, but it's your own lust! If you desire drugs and are tempted to get some, that once again is not God, but your own lust! If you have evil desires, you are going to be tempted to act those desires out. It's important to remember these scriptures, because we can easily blame God, for our temptation and once we start blaming God, we develop a bitterness. If we develop a bitterness against God, then we are in danger of falling away. The bitterness actually brings temptation for us, to stop walking with the Lord.

Also, you might try to tempt the Lord, when you're going through a tough time. Actually you're tempted to tempt God. Jesus, was tempted by Satan, to tempt God, but He said, "It is written, thou shalt not tempt the Lord, thy God!" We like Jesus, must refuse the temptation. We must say, "No!" and then use the scriptures to back up why we're saying no. The enemy likes to say, why it's ok to do this or that, but if you know God's Word, you know it's not ok. Anyway, you might wonder why it's not good to tempt God. One reason, is because we are not of Satan and temptation is a tactic of Satan. We are of God and we shouldn't tempt. Another reason is because it's foolishness to tempt God. It's foolishness because it's impossible to cause God, to sin and it's impossible to even tempt Him, because He is perfect. Those are a couple of reasons, that I believe to be true and 'm sure there are more.

Also, take a look at chapter four of Matthew. If you're not grounded in the Word of God, Satan or his people can take the scriptures out of context and try to deceive you that way. Read Matthew 4:6-7 and you'll see my point.

Be careful and be grounded in the Word of God! Fight the temptation, with God's truth! You, don't have to be a victim of temptation!

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message. Please forgive us of all our sins and we forgive those who've wronged us. Bring us closer to you and help us to know you, through your Word and Spirit. Help us overcome temptation and help us, to never try to tempt you! In Jesus, name. A-men!

God bless!
