Don't Spiritually Starve!

Saturday's Devotion (1-31-04)

"But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." Matthew 4:4 (KJV)

The Word of God, is very important. People don't really understand why it's important to be grounded in the Word of God (The Bible). Some people believe that the only food they need is the food to feed the body: vegetables, fruits, meat and etc. However, there is a food that we must feed our spirits. If our spirits, don't have the Word of God, we can not live spiritually. If you see the way our bodies look after we've been starved, think of how your spirit must look without being spiritually fed. I remember when I first became a follower of Christ, I was the hungriest at that time. I couldn't get enough of Christian music or the Word of God. It was like I was starving and I was munching out. Without the Word of God, we spiritually die. If we spiritually die, we can not inherit the Kingdom of God. I try to stress the point, that it's important to read God's Word, daily. Because I know my body doesn't like not eating for a day, so my spirit, must not like it either. It's actually more important to have the Word of God, than to have a meal for the body. Without the Word of God, life can be pretty tough. The Word of God, can bring our spirits back to life and bring us joy. The Word of God, can give us knowledge to be saved. If you've been saved and you say, "I don't need to read the Bible, to be saved!" Let me ask one question. How did you become saved in the first place? Did someone minister the Word of God, to you? Did you hear that Jesus, is someone's savior? No matter how you were saved, it leads back to the scriptures. The scriptures bring life! Get in the Word of God and live a life worth living!

Also it's important to read the Bible, because we don't want to be deceived. People can twist the Word of God and make you think what they're saying is true. It's kind of like having your body starve and someone offers you a poisoned piece of food and you think it's good, but once you eat it, you die. Don't let someone spiritually poison you!

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message. Please forgive us of all our sins and we forgive those who've wronged, us. Please help us to get in and stay in your Word. Bring us close to you. In Jesus, name. A-men!

God bless!
